Was looking at ambigrams the other day, which is where the inspiration for the bottom one came from.

Really rough anchor points, needs cleaning, I know. First one isn’t supposed to be so jagged. But hey, you have to work with what you’re not given.

I really like Bauhaus style.

New Year, Lots to Do

Just moved to a new apartment. It’s fairly nice, but needs some lovin’.

Internet:
Ordered 01/05. Opted for self installation. FedEx says it’ll be delivered on the 9th.
Was delivered, but didn’t include everything needed. Called and found out I wasn’t in their customer database. Having a technician come to install on Wednesday (aka, plug in a modem to a coaxial cable, and then charge me money. Also, have them check the stupid box on the side of the town house row)
1/13: Just got confirmation that TWC will be there to install the internet tomorrow. Please let it all work out!
1/14: a little bit of stupidity, but here I am on my internets at home (and they fixed the cable yay!)

Painting:
Filling holes with spackle (1/2 way done)
Sanding down bumps on walls (1/2 way done)
Valspar Aqua Dance, 1 Gallon
2 rollers
2 roller covers
1 paint tin
stick to stir paint
floor covering
painter’s tape

Curtains:

Cafe Curtain rods: $8 (thinking of returning one for a tension rod)

Bedroom Doorway. Ordered 1/7, arrived 1/14
cord1.jpg
4.5 wale Corduroy. Cost: $13.04 with shipping & tax.
It’s a really lovely glossy wide wale fabric. Gonna take some measurements for the doorway, get to pinning it, and probably will sew them tomorrow! Yay!

Sewed the curtain and it looks great. Whoo!

Bedroom Curtain:

8 Wale Corduroy. Cost: 17.25 with shipping and tax
JoAnn.com just informed me that they’re sold out! (this is the second time this has happened with a fabric order with them! boo!!)

Bedroom Sheers:

sheers.jpg

Ordered 1/13m Shipping out 1/17. Cost: $31.89 with shipping. Could only find a 10% off coupon and was too impatient to wait until they stocked in a corduroy for the main curtain.

This came in and it’s not nearly as pretty as the picture. It’s actually a dull green. So I can’t have the bring green drapes I had wanted. Hmm. Brown maybe? Dunno.

Sew Curtains (need matching thread)

Order Curtains

Entryway Window. Ordered 1/7, arrived 1/13

They’re lined to keep out drafts and light. I had a $25 giftcard to Target so they only cost me $14.39. Shipping UPS;
In Secaucus, NJ as of the 12th.
Arrived! The red is much darker and richer in person. They’re too heavy for the cafe rod I have up, so I think I’m going to have to put up a real curtain rod. They’re kinda wrinkled, so I’ll be dealing with that this weekend.

Order Furniture

Desk: Ordered 1/12, Shipped 1/15, Estimated Arrival 1/28
desk.jpg
30″H x 60″W x 24″D. A little bit narrow, but I like the style. Cost: $266.37
Dad is paying for the desk since he broke my other one during the move.
1/22: Currently in Ohio. I’m waiting impatiently.
Delivery Scheduled for Wednesday.
Arrived and assembled  1/28. Left off the bottom shelf so the computer can sit back all the way. The middle drawer came broken-ish, several of the screws had fallen out, there was a bit of broken wood that I’ll have to glue back down so the drawer can pull all the way out. But it looks great and matches my computer exactly.

Desk Chair: Ordered 1/3, arrived and assembled 1/12
deskchair.jpg
$162.55 with tax (free shipping)
Pretty comfy. I wish the back could be adjusted. Otherwise, really nice and sturdy.

Couch:
couch.jpg
$673 including shipping and tax.
Reviews say Urban Outfitter’s furniture is flimsy and doesn’t last long. Gonna have to look for another sofa.
knihult.jpg
Minimalistic Ikea. $449. Knihult. The back cushions were soft, the bottom cushion and arms a little stiff.

couchred.jpg
Cost: $502.94 with shipping. 76″L x 36.5″W x 37″H
I like it, but this red just kills me. If it came in gray (found it in light blue, brown and taupe) I’d be all about it. (I thought about my color scheme ending up as black, red and white, and it’s really not the cool colored sophisticated scheme I was aiming for)

sofa.jpg
Cost: $400, from Ikea. I love the fact that it has only one arm, and has Le Corbusier metal piping on the side to hold the armrest in place. Also, you can buy a bunch of separate pieces and build a sectional.

Hated the fabric. It was a thick chenille weave. It was comfy, but a terrible texture. Also the purple wasn’t a deep rich purple, but almost mauve.

I’m talking myself into buying it anyway in beige microfiber, and making my own slipcover. I figure it would take 9 yards to remake the covers. I had samples sent to me last night, and that fabric was $12/yard. So I’m looking at another $100 to customize the sofa. @__@

Also I’m bummed out that the beige fabric sofa only comes with the arm on the right side, and not on the left like the other fabrics. (makes no sense, they sell full sofas that are made up of the left arm and the right arm, so I know they have them.)

Bought and assembled 1/31. It took 30 minutes to assemble the couch. The bottom cushion is a little stiff, but it’ll break in. The microfiber slipcover is incredibly staticky. I thought I’d be able to make a new slipcover for it, but I’m not up for it just yet. I’ll find some nice fabric, and slowly get that together (and toy with the idea of making Tylosand covers on commission ha).
Cost: $414 (3.5% tax at the Elizabeth Ikea yay!)

Dresser:
Ordered: 1/22, Arrived 1/28,  Assembled 1/31

sleepyhollowlowdresser3qf8.jpg
They’ve lowered the price to $458 with shipping. *swoon*
I bought it. And now it is the most expensive single item thing I’ve bought (other than paying rent) to date.
Delivery scheduled for Wednesday. The delivery guys pressed the doorbell at exactly 7am. Wow.
This thing took about and hour and a half to put together. It was annoying, and we accidentally put the drawer sides on backwards. It had a few scratches and a nick on the front left corner, which I was unhappy about, considering the giant amount of packaging it came with. It looks fabulous though.
Cost: $500

Expedit Shelf: $80
expedit.jpg
Hated the black brown color. Didn’t get it.

Desk Lamp
74239_pe191008_s3.jpg
Orgel Ikea lamp. $30. I’m going to hang it on the wall above the computer desk since there’s no ceiling lights in that part of the living room. I need to get two 40 watt bulbs and 4 screws to mount it to the wall. It matches the flokati rug. I was very happy about that.

Floor Lamp for bedroom

Natural Flokati Rug 2.5 x 4.5: Ordered 1/15, Shipping 1/21, Arrived 1/22

flokati1.jpg

Cost: $46
A little bit smaller than the size I wanted, but a heck of a lot cheaper.
It came in today and it’s actually a nice size. It needs to be fluffed up a bit, the pad on the bottom seems a bit thin, and I expected the wool to be softer (okay it was $46 after all, it’s not going to be soft like merino). I saw one in Ikea that was a touch smaller and the same rough fiber for a bit cheaper.

Wall Decor
floating wall shelves for the ceiling:
shelf.jpg
Ikea Lack, would need 2 to span the length of the ceiling.
The shelf thickness was about 3″ wide, which would just end up taking too much room in the area I want to put them. So I didn’t get them.
They have floating shelves at Lowe’s and Home Depot, so I may just grab them there.

Wall graphics:

Cost: $38 at WhatisBlik

graphic.jpg
Cost: $110 at TheSurfaceStore

Miscellaneous:
New knobs for bathroom cabinet: $4
New Kohler toilet Seat: $20
Clean carpets: $30 to rent machine

Running total: $1220.87    >_< Most amount of money I’ve ever spent.
